The Holy Face Devotion

Defending the Holy Name of God

In 19th century Tours, Sr. Marie de St. Pierre, a Carmelite nun, was given a mission. Together, she and Venerable Leo Dupont, “The Holy Man of Tours” led others to honor the holy face and name of God. These defenders of the Holy Name of God became “other Veronicas,” offering reparation and consolation for blasphemy and praying for the conversion of sinners. The Archconfraternity of the Holy Face continues to invite religous and lay people to join them as consolers of Christ.

About the Holy Face Images

Three miraculous images of the Holy Face of Our Lord are honored in the Holy Face devotion: (1) The image from the veil of Veronica, offered to Christ on his journey to the cross, (2) The shroud of Turin, which bears the image of both face and body, and (3) The veil of Manopolo, made of mussel silk and believed to have covered Christ’s face at his burial.
